Jeu de Cheval

Horses and Mental Health

Fun for the Disabled

There is no doubt that horses and people can be a great match. Equally, the interaction with horses and those of us with less than perfect physical ability, or under a temporary or continuing mental condition, can benefit to an infinite degree.

It has been long realised that forming a connection with beautiful, gentle animals is nothing new, particularly to those who have worked with equines. The reality is that the benefits derived are immeasurable and long lasting.

Here at Jeu de Cheval, we continue to use the energy of horses to enhance the lives of all who participate in our activities.

NDIS PROGRAMS

You can include horse riding/equine time at Cheval in your NDIS plan, providing you are able bodied. However, those with physical disabilities ONLY can be catered for in certain circumstances, so please call us for information.

We not only offer horse riding, but also farm-based work skills, socialisation, independence, fitness building, equine nutrition and welfare and simply being around horses.

Sessions are offered on weekdays from 9:30am and range from 90 minutes to 6 hours at a time, depending on clients’ desires and needs. They can be one-on-one or in a group environment.

Our main goal is to help clients own their independence as much as possible. Some are terribly anxious, some lack fitness or fine/gross motor skills, and some simply crave the socialisation. Regardless of needs, the inclusive and supportive environment at Cheval can help. We aim to operate in all weather and throughout the year to keep consistency.

Prices start at $150 an hour (90 min session minimum). Please note a weight limit of 100kg applies to anyone riding in these programs. Self managed clients are expected to pay on arrival and the cost can be claimed back through their provider. We will provide a service agreement to sign before classes commence.
